Day 32: Bridge of the Gods

July 30

Distance: 3.7 miles | Ascent: 400′ | Descent: 650′

Mile marker: 505.5

Lunch: J – spicy bacon mac (A), A – chili with orzo (B+)

Dinner: J – burrito (A+), A – quesabirria (A+)

We walked to Oregon! Then we had to cross a terrifying bridge.

We went to the hotel to book a room for the night and they generously let us into our room at 9:30am. It was great to get a shower and do laundry early.  We got our next box from the post office. We took the bus to Hood River and got giant ice creams, in waffle cones! We surprised ourselves with how quickly we ate them. Afterwards, Alex visited a nearby outdoor shop and selected her next pair of shoes, to be sent down trail to Crater Lake, Oregon. She’ll be trying a new brand in hopes that frequent superglue repairs will no longer be required.

Jason’s pack is delayed in the mail, but Osprey sent another further down trail to pickup in a week’s time. Hopefully, everything goes well and the frame holds together until then.

We got dinner and watched the PCT movie Wild at the hotel. The timing was odd because (spoiler) the movie ends with her crossing the same bridge that we had crossed in the morning.

My husband‘s cousin and two children hiked the AT from Georgia to Maine several years ago so this is of special interest to me. Keeping both of you in my thoughts and prayers for a safe journey.
