Our day was full of errands and relaxer exploring. We started the day drinking our coffees slowly on the couch under cozy blankets – an absolute luxury. Then, we went to Etna Creek Outfitters to restock on some hiking stuff. Jason got a belt! His pants were falling down, and the DIY shock cord belt wasn’t enough. We both got new pairs of sunglasses since our old ones had started falling apart. Next, we picked up our box at the Etna post office. We got coffee and pastries at a café.

In the afternoon, we drove to Yreka to get a marriage license from the county clerk. We are toying with the idea of getting married right at the end of the trail. This would come with a few challenges, but having Jodi to help us with the transportation to get the license has eliminated one of them. If we push ahead with this wedding idea, we will share details here.

We realized that next weekend is Labor Day, and our next stop in Dunsmuir was planned to be over the long weekend when the post office is closed. We certainly weren’t going to wait until the following Tuesday. With our unique set of circumstances and a personal trail angel, we drove to Dunsmuir and picked up our next box and delivered it to a gas station that offers to hold PCT hiker boxes. We should have no problem getting it over the holiday weekend now.

We visited Castle Crag state park and admired the beauty. It’ll be a few days til we walk there, but it was nice to get a sneak peak and share the experience with Jodi.

We still have some chores to do before we hit the trail. We might take another day off tomorrow to let our bodies rest and try to catch-up on some calories we need.
